Hi CLOTHO fam! I gotta be up front with y’all…I’m Teen Wolf style roof surfing on top of the Struggle Bus right now. Anyone else? Adjusting to my 8-year-old being home for summer break, plus the general overwhelm of trying to keep aware of and in service to alleviating the suffering going on in the world while also keeping my stress down because my doctor told me to while also…you get it. It’s a lot. So, in this edition, for my June Obsessions, I wanted to try a different format — walking through an average day. But, focusing just on the brightest spots that are bringing me peace. I’ve been using an LED light mask for a while now, and I can genuinely tell a difference in my skin! I like this one because the battery pack has a very long lifespan between charges, and it has different light settings that do different things. I typically use the blue light first for ten minutes to kill acne bacteria and follow with the red light for 10-15 minutes for collagen and elastin stimulation. While my mask is on, I’ve started incorporating daily affirmations. I love this podcast called Daily Affirmations for Women, but they’re really for anyone! After my mask I do my skincare routine, which I switch up to try new things, but always finish off with a nice layer of this yerba mate eye gel. The caffeine content helps with dark circles and puffiness, plus it’s a bargain at $6!
By mid-morning I’m in the thick of working from home (I do freelance HR consulting for non-profit organizations) and that means I’m staring at too many screens too intently. My glasses have blue light blocking built in, but if you want a prescription free option, these are great. I’ve also started using a timer to remind me to stand up and stretch and take my eyes off the screen. This one looks super cool, and has a wide range of settings. I’ll usually do 90 minutes on and then a 5-minute stretch and eye rest break. Matching planners and pens make me happy, and I love the chic, retro coastal vibes of these.
After work, before making dinner, I have a protein bar snack (the caramel cashew ones from Barebells are a fave) and take a quick walk around the neighborhood for some endorphins and Vitamin D. This dress is on my wishlist! I love the neckline and built in shorts; it can pass as workwear for virtual meetings with a cardigan over it and can work for running errands or going out for lunch. Ballet sneakers are all the rage, and these are also on my wish list! They’re sturdy enough for mental health walks and still have a sleek profile that’s fashionable with any outfit.
After everyone has been fed, my son has been bathed, brushed, and tucked in, I kick up my feet with some fuzzy socks (these also have circulation support) and read. In honor of Father’s Day, I’m plugging my dad’s latest book, Love in Words and Music. It’s really beautiful and real; check it out for Kindle for $3! Once a week, I like to slather on a resurfacing mask, and this one has a combo of AHAs that are potent without being too irritating.
Thanks so much for joining me on finding the glimmers in my day. It reminds me that I have a lot to be grateful for. I’ll see you again next week for our Cancer Season style guide!
