2025 has been heavy. Really heavy. And, as we’ve talked about in previous editions, fashion trends are a collective response to cultural shifts. So, when a trend emerges, my first instinct is to dig into why. What is this trend a response to? What does it say about our current collective mood? And how can we expect it to progress?
So far this year, sheer has been the foremost trend off of the runways and red carpets. So much so, that Team Sheer pulled off a surprising win in our first ever Fashion Month Madness bracket tournament. We’ve talked a lot before about how, historically, when cultural conversations around women’s autonomy increase, so does the amount of skin we see in style movements.
But something else that came out of the Met Gala is the surge in popularity of white and off-white hues. Coupled with the sheer trend, it creates an airy aesthetic, speaking to our collective desire for lightness. For renewal. For a moment of peace. Thinking of the trend this way actually gives me a lot of hope for the back half of this year. Plus, it’s the perfect time to channel some of this ethereal energy in your personal style story. To carry some of this airiness into your day, reach in your closet for ivory, sheer fabrics, and flowy silhouettes. If you’re in the market to add any of these into your current wardrobe, keep reading for my picks and styling ideas.
For a more elegant interpretation of cloud dressing, look for warmer beige or cream hues reminiscent of the clouds at sunset.
